A school born at the heart of innovation

Founded in 1984 under the name ESC Grenoble, GEM has focused on technology management and dual skills since its inception. Located in a region renowned for research, engineering, and innovation, the School has developed programs designed to meet the needs of organizations facing complex and rapidly changing environments.
This approach has led to a number of pioneering initiatives: apprenticeships, dual degrees with engineering schools, the creation of the first French DBA, and the early integration of geopolitical, entrepreneurial, and technological issues into the curriculum.

A trajectory built over time

For more than forty years, GEM has developed around a clear guiding principle: anticipating changes in the world and training leaders capable of understanding and steering them.

  • 1984

Creation of ESC Grenoble around the founding concept of technology management

  • 1987

Launch of Formatech with the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble, a pioneering program combining scientific and managerial skills

  • 1992

Move to Europole, into a smart building pioneering educational innovation

  • 1993

Creation of the first French DBA in cooperation with Henley Management College and integration into EDAMBA

  • 1994

Launch of an apprenticeship program, a first for a French business school

  • 1995

Launch of the Master in International Business (MIB), marking the School’s international expansion

  • 1999 – 2000

Creation of the ICT Observatory with IBM and the Hall of Technological Entrepreneurship; obtaining EQUIS accreditation

  • 2004 – 2008

Educational innovations and creation of dual-degree programs with engineering schools and Stendhal Grenoble 3 University

  • 2008 – 2009

Founding member of the GIANT innovation campus and launch of the Geopolitics Festival

  • 2011 – 2021

Development of international partnerships, launch of the CFA, and adoption of société à mission status

Inauguration of the GEM Paris campus
