Looking back at the territorial transition meeting on February 7, 2024, co-organized by the Territorial Transition Chair of Grenoble Ecole de Management and the Social and Solidarity Economy Chair of Lyon 2, both of which develop a reflection on the evaluation of territorial social utility and aim to think about systems, even to "build a system" to change the system.

Event Summary :

Facing the complexity of the socio-ecological crisis, public or private actors questioning the value generated by their activities are confronted with three key questions :

1.    How to consider the value generated by their activity in a multidimensional way (in material, relational, cultural, and political terms) ?

2.    How to consider the territory, its relational dynamics, and its articulation with other spatial scales ?

3.    How to integrate the complexity of phenomena and their interdependence ?

Each of these questions refers to a wide range of issues. The first on social utility, the second on the territory, and the third on systemic approaches. However, despite their proximity, these three fields of reflection are rarely combined to equip actors in their transformation process. The challenge of this meeting was therefore to facilitate this discussion.

This meeting first allowed us to grasp what territorial approaches entail in terms of systemic change and why they are increasingly sought after by actors questioning the value of their action. Then, it outlined how these territorial and systemic approaches can be concretely integrated into an evaluation process (such as that of Léo Lagrange on early childhood in Nantes).

Speakers :

  • Fanny Lepoivre, General Delegate of the Territorial Foundation of Loire-Atlantique
  • Eric Plottu, Scientific Coordinator of research in humanities and social sciences and the ADEME Theses program
  • Cyril Tassart, Researcher-entrepreneur in systemic approach
  • Eléonore Lavoine, PhD student in management science at Grenoble Ecole de Management and at Clerma (University of Clermont Ferrand), employee of Léo Lagrange and specialist in territorial social utility

This meeting also benefited from insights from :

  • Sylvain Celle, Lyon 2 SSE Chair, lecturer in economics at Lyon 2 University
  • Isabelle Garcia Piqueras, Lyon 2 SSE Chair, lecturer in management science at Lyon 2 University
  • Fiona Ottaviani, co-coordinator of the Territorial Transition Chair, Associate Professor in economics at Grenoble Ecole de Management.
