Testimonials
“An external perspective on the world of energy transition”
"When trying to sell a hydrogen project today, it’s not the permits that block progress, but economic aspects and political decisions, largely influenced by public opinion. The Chair provides us with an external perspective on what is happening in the world of energy transition: trends, societal topics, resistance to change, rules to follow, human biases that prevent a technology that works from taking off, or taking off fast enough." “For us, the Chair’s work has operational value”
Pierre-Henri Grenier, Executive Director of the Banque de la Transition Energétique
*"Since its creation in 2020, the Banque de la Transition Energétique, a subsidiary of Banque Populaire AURA, has granted €600M in loans for energy efficiency projects, thermal renovation, renewable installations, etc. We need foresight and analyses to define our strategy, and the Chair contributes by exploring new topics. Some have operational value: the results on private condominium renovations inspired new financing solutions.
Research on social acceptability reflects what we observe on the ground: projects are often slowed or even abandoned. We want to better understand how opinions are formed, how to deconstruct preconceived ideas, present a project in a public meeting, and share value differently… The rapid development of renewables relies on this understanding."*

“A different perspective on the local anchoring of our projects”
"A wind project cannot succeed without a strong local anchoring, and our teams work on this every day on the ground. We also need an additional, more academic perspective: the Chair provides this with a good balance between scientific rigor and business orientation. Research on media coverage helped us understand and decode criticism of wind energy and refine our argumentation.
The study on the financial leverage regarding wind turbine installation was based on a robust questionnaire in which we were heavily involved. Most importantly, it confirms the relevance of our reflections: value sharing, also considered by the State, is a lever to exploit. We now have more material and depth for its implementation."

“A different perspective on the local anchoring of our projects”
"GRDF manages the French gas distribution network. We are involved in methanization to contribute to carbon neutrality goals: 20% green gas by 2030, 100% by 2050. Our role is to ensure the connection of production units and also to support projects, particularly regarding social acceptability: stakeholder relations, sharing best practices to improve support for the project…
The first pioneering projects were a source of lessons, and we felt it necessary to deepen our understanding of social acceptance. That is why we turned to the Chair, whose transdisciplinary approach – social sciences, management, and administration – combines theory and practical recommendations. This will support the strong growth of green gas. We also benefit from experience sharing with other Chair sponsors."*

“Research directions that align with our concerns”
"The research directions of the Energy for Society Chair align with our own vision of the conditions needed to rapidly develop renewable energies. These must integrate three essential dimensions into their business models and strategies: the desirability of change, taking into account the population’s desires, motivations, and values; feasibility, identifying individual and collective constraints that may hinder adoption; and conditions for implementation, considering factors that could improve alignment of the project with societal needs and expectations."

EnerG Institute – Energy for Society Chair
Presentation
In the face of the climate emergency and the profound transformation of our energy systems, how can we rethink our relationship with energy to build a more sustainable society? The Energy for Society Chair, which becomes the EnerG Institute in 2026, brings together researchers and partners to study sustainable energy solutions and their societal impacts. It also contributes to enriching academic programs and developing new executive education offerings to support companies, public decision-makers and citizens in mastering the key challenges of the energy transition.
EnerG Institute – Energy for Society ChairResearch
The research conducted by the Energy for Society Chair examines the economic, social, and political dynamics of the energy transition. It provides evidence-based insights to support public and private decision-makers in designing effective, sustainable, and socially accepted energy projects.
ResearchObservatories
The observatories developed by the EnerG Institute generate data, indicators, and strategic analyses to support public and private decision-making in the energy sector. They combine geopolitical, industrial, and societal perspectives to anticipate structural changes in energy systems.
