Salam holds a PhD in Economics from Université Grenoble Alpes, where his research focused on the direction of influence between Emerging Economies and the International neoliberal order. His research analyses the effect of China’s approach to the regulation of international economic relations on the policy autonomy of developing countries in areas of trade, investment, and industrial development. Moreover, Salam adopts a territorial approach to study the transformation of the international order, specifically analyzing the multi-scalar drivers and implications of China-Middle East relations in oil markets, transport infrastructures, and logistics. His academic contributions have been published in journals such as New Political Economy, Competition & Change, Journal of Economic Issues, and Journal of World Trade.
