They are core to value creation, also within organizations, especially in their capacity to generate knowledge (Barrett et al., 2016). Online communities contribute also to organizational innovativeness because they encourage people (employees, users, customers, etc.) to share their knowledge . This study aims at answering the following question: “How governing an online community with a gift perspective foster knowledge co-creation in online communities?”. The study brings in a case study that investigates a sponsored online community for bushcraft and urban survival techniques. Building on interviews and netnography, it contributes to the value co-creation by developing the understanding of online community governance principles and practices. The findings highlight the significant role of organizations in governing online communities for value co-creation.
