HarmonIA Lab
How can we design artificial intelligence that strengthens human teams without undermining their autonomy, accountability, and capacity for judgment? HarmonIA Lab explores the interactions between humans, AI, and organizations to understand how AI is transforming decision-making, learning, and collective action, and how its use can be governed responsibly and sustainably.

HarmonIA Lab
HarmonIA Lab is a research laboratory dedicated to studying the interactions between humans, artificial intelligence and organizations. It examines how AI, particularly generative AI, is transforming team dynamics, innovation processes, decision-making and forms of collective responsibility. The laboratory combines empirical research and theoretical work to understand how to design genuinely augmented and sustainable work environments.
The laboratory pursues a dual objective: to generate scientific knowledge about the socio-technical transformations driven by artificial intelligence and to develop responsible frameworks for organizational action. Its research aims in particular to:
- Identify design principles for integrating AI into teams without undermining their autonomy.
- Understand how AI reshapes attention, deliberation and accountability.
- Develop governance frameworks that promote transparency and accountability.
- Document AI use cases and adoption pathways within organizations.
HarmonIA Lab operates as a collaborative research hub bringing together researchers, businesses and public institutions. It draws on academic and industry partnerships, as well as philanthropic funding, to support studies, observatories and exploratory projects. This collaborative approach enables the co-development of a research agenda grounded in the real-world challenges facing organizations, while safeguarding the academic independence of its research.
Scientific, Societal and Industry Challenges
Scientific Challenges
The laboratory operates at the intersection of information systems and management science. It draws on qualitative, quantitative and experimental approaches to analyze interactions between humans and artificial intelligence in organizations. Its research contributes to advancing our understanding of hybrid teams, innovation dynamics, and decision-making and accountability mechanisms in socio-technical contexts.
Societal Challenges
The widespread adoption of artificial intelligence is reshaping how people work, make decisions and coordinate their activities. Embedded within existing tools, rules and routines, AI gradually transforms human capacities for attention, judgment and accountability. The laboratory examines these evolving dynamics to identify the conditions for governance that genuinely enhances the capabilities of teams and individuals without undermining human autonomy.
Industry and Institutional Challenges
Businesses and institutions face major challenges in integrating AI systems, aligning them with existing processes, allocating responsibilities and ensuring regulatory compliance. HarmonIA Lab provides analytical and practical frameworks to design, govern and deploy genuinely valuable AI-augmented work environments, taking into account team dynamics, organizational constraints and the gradual transformation of work driven by artificial intelligence.
Research Areas
HarmonIA Lab is structured around three research areas, each encompassing empirical studies and conceptual research:
- AI-Augmented Teams and Innovation
- The Transformation of Work and Human Capabilities in the Age of AI
- Governance, Accountability and Sustainability of Socio-Technical Systems
AI-Augmented Teams and Innovation
This research area examines how AI is integrated into collective processes for generating, evaluating and selecting ideas. It investigates the conditions under which AI tools genuinely support creativity, team coordination and performance, as well as the risks of dependency and excessive delegation to AI systems.
The Transformation of Work and Human Capabilities in the Age of AI
This research area explores how AI reshapes attention, decision-making, learning and coordination at work. It analyzes the gradual transformation of routines, skills and forms of autonomy as AI systems are integrated into existing tools and organizational practices.
Governance, Accountability and Sustainability of Socio-Technical Systems
This research area explores the challenges of AI governance, the allocation of responsibilities and regulatory oversight. It aims to understand how to design organizational frameworks that ensure transparency, consistency and accountability while preserving collective agency and the sustainability of ongoing transformations.
Partners
HarmonIA Lab relies on academic partnerships and philanthropic funding arrangements, including skills-based corporate philanthropy, to support specific research and monitoring activities.
The laboratory also collaborates with businesses and institutions that contribute to its research, observatories and training initiatives in responsible AI.
