Project Management

The Project Management Process

This module aims at giving overall Project Management methodologies as used in the industry and following Project Management Methodology best practices.
The second part of the module aims to give students an effective preparation to a career in Project Management using a professional approach. Students develop their practical knowledge to:

  • Structure projects in such a way as to set realistic goals and identify milestones
  • Learn how to use effective tools for scheduling and be able to run single or parallel projects
  • Identify project risks and contingencies
  • Use resources more efficiently at each stage of the project
  • Manage time, cost and quality
  • Implement control systems to keep on top of the project and make faster and more effective decisions
  • Build the project team and structure the project plan
  • Manage cross-functional and cross-cultural project teams

Project Management Tools

Future consultants acquire the techniques and the tools to build successful projects. They learn how to use analysis tools and apply them for the different situations encountered such as project requirements or process workflow re-engineering.

The tools for the future consultant to work with his client in setting up successful project plan are presented:

  • Detailed Analysis of Present state within Company or Organization
  • Identification of problems at each level
  • Definition of a concise proposal for future implemented solution
  • Identification of precise project risks and contingencies
  • Detailed gathering of stakeholders requirements
  • Effective communication with Company Management
  • Management of cross-cultural project requirements
  • Creation of professional image and commitment to quality

Project Management in Action

The risk assessment and management unit teaches formal methodology to include risk management in the practice of project management.

Future project management consultants learn about industry best practices, risk management, and practical risk assessment, evaluation and management techniques to apply on Projects.

This unit also uses a Computer-based Project Simulation offering to participants an opportunity to train and exercise their Project Management knowledge in realistic, challenging Project situations, thereby increasing their project management experience and maturity. In teams of five, participants lead a simulated real-life project from the idea inception to the customer delivery. They learn what it feels like as they make real decisions and get real feedback. They learn from their mistakes and their successes. Along the simulation participants have to report on project status using presentations, meetings and report documents.
