Introduction to techniques for evaluating the opportunity of investing. Investment cycles, discounting and compounding methods, measuring the profitability of an investment, describing investment flows. The theoretical models employed to take investment decisions will be introduced in some detail. Cases will illustrate some of the key factors concerning the decision-making process and investment.
Finance - the financing decision
This module introduces the concept of the cost of financing, and the following techniques : the Weighted Average Cost of capital, equity evaluation techniques such as the Gordon and Shapiro model, plus Capital Asset Pricing theory. Practical finance decision-making challenges will be explored, such as replacing obsolete technology or equipment, and the choice between buying or leasing/renting.
