The French association Accès Universel* is organising at Grenoble Ecole de Management, “The European Days of Accessibility" on the 22nd & 23rd January 2010. This event is held under the patronage of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and is co-organised with the City of Grenoble.
Accès Universel aims to make daily life more accessible to the disabled by mobilizing the forces of local authorities, businesses and citizens.
12 million French people are affected by at least one disability which prevents them to lead a normal life.
In France:
- 1 500 000 people suffer from some form of visual impairment
- 2 250 000 people experience limited mobility
- 1 000 000 people have a mental disability
- 450 000 people have a hearing impairment
30 % of the French population has admitted that they are directly affected by non-accessibility.
The unemployment rate among disabled people is three times higher than the national average.
During this two-day event, key representatives will exchange and debate about non-accessibility matters.
This conference has the following ambitions:
- Offering an international platform for scientists, sociologists, physicians, experts and public authorities.
- Discussing the difficulties of unlimited accessibility
- Presenting new innovations
- Identifying the best methods towards more accessibility for the disabled.
During the conference a series of workshops will also take place: For more information, please visit www.journees-accessibilite.com.
