Entrepreneurship & Family Business

30-hour course (3 US or 6 ECTS credits)*

The two courses Fashion and Luxury Markets and Entrepreneurship and Family Business will address two major sectors, which are closely linked. The aim of combining the two is to enable participants to launch their own activity in the luxury fashion market, should they wish:

These topics will be explored using operational and interactive teaching methods. Company visits and presentations will also be incorporated into the program.
These two courses are designed to be followed together, but can be taken as separate, stand-alone programs.

Entrepreneurship (15 hours)

This half of the course will provide you with an introduction to entrepreneurship by exploring entrepreneurial strengths and showing you how to turn an idea into a successful business proposition. You will examine the business planning process, how to generate and evaluate ideas, how to present a business plan and evaluate ways of assessing the various sources of funding available to entrepreneurs. Your module will finish with a practical guide on how to plan the growth of your own company.

The topics you will study in this half of the course include:

  • Identifying Entrepreneurial tendencies
  • A business plan for start-up - Idea, Profitability and Funding
  • Planning Growth of a business - Marketing and Finance

This half-course course introduces you to best practice models and will see you involved in group exercises and discussions, designed to embed your learning. Assessment for this half of the course will be in the form of an individual Learning Log and Development Diary, plus a group presentation of a business plan.


 

Family Business (15 hours)

This course allows you to ‘step into the shoes’ of family/small business owner/managers and obtain a unique fast track learning experience, understanding the fundamentals and challenges in running and growing a company. On completion of this half course you will be able to:

  • Examine complex business situations and environments, with the objective of solving business problems and developing viable solutions
  • Analyze multi-faceted business situations and problems
  • Make compelling and lucid presentations to financiers and/or investors to meet growth funding requirements.

This half course is designed to provide a learning experience that conducive to learning, being is pragmatic and relevant but also challenging. Through the various activities such as case study analysis and group discussion work, you will develop a range of skills including effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork.
Assessment for this half of the course involves individual and group-work, plus individual participation in lectures and discussions.

 


*These credits can be transferred to your home institution, however, it is your responsibility to verify with your advisor and/or department that the credits you earn in Grenoble can be applied to your curriculum or course of study. Your home institution may ask for an additional fee to transfer the credits.
