Entrepreneurship February 20-24, 2012 The Entrepreneurship module is aimed at all those participants who have a desire to tap and apply their creative abilities within a wide range of contexts. In this regard, the module is designed to meet the future needs of all types of individuals, in that it recognises that tomorrow’s organisations, irrespective of size, require employees that are both innovative and creative (intrapreneurs), as well as those who wish to start up their own business (entrepreneurs). Whilst focusing predominately on the highly heterogeneous small and medium enterprise sectors, the module will therefore also consider enterprise within wider organisational contexts including the social enterprise sector. Enterprise however, does not operate in a vacuum and so we will consider the importance of the economic, political and social context both in terms of its macro and micro dimensions, for example from national government policy to local cultural issues. This will allow participants to understand the dynamic nature of the subject and also its inter-relationship with both the national and the global economy. During this module, you will:
Small and Family Business April 16-20, 2012 The module is designed to provide participants with a working knowledge of the essential principles and practices of small business management. Participants will analyse a range of complex and inter-acting challenges that any new and growing business faces, relating to legal frameworks, marketing, finance, business operations and human resources. Participants will also examine the issues in family businesses relating to the role of the family in management and decision-making, and to continuity and succession planning. Main learning objectives
New Venture Business Plan (in the UK, Oxford Brookes) June 14-18, 2012 The module is designed to help participants to appreciate the role of business planning for new ventures and for established smaller businesses. Participants will learn how to structure a successful business plan, particularly how to put forward a clear business model. The outcome for the successful completion of the module will be a business plan for a new or existing business, presented to a panel. Business planning is a transferable skill, and the skills learned in developing a robust business case should be of benefit to those wishing to return to corporate life, as well as to those wishing to start or manage a small business. The module will end with a visit to the Grenoble Entrepreneur’s Fair and presentations from successful entrepreneurs.
